How to turn off ai crawling ON my squarespace website

Squarespace just released a new feature where you can turn off AI Crawlers on your website. Best of all, it only takes a few clicks. You can complete this task in under a minute.

This will prevent AI companies from scanning your website but still leave it publicly available for web visitors. The new feature also gives you the option to leave your site open for search engine crawlers.

What are AI crawlers?

These bots are used by Artificial Intelligence companies to train their LLMs (Large Language Models). The data they scan online is used to increase the capabilities (and accuracy) of their AI models such as ChatGPT.

HOW TO TURN OFF AI SCANS

If you'd like to exclude your website from AI Scans, follow these 4 simple steps for your Squarespace website.

  1. Login to your Squarespace account.

  2. Open Settings

  3. Click on Crawlers

  4. Toggle off the Artificial Intelligence button and click “Save”

Switching this off will update your robots.txt file to tell the following bots not to crawl your site:

  • GPTBot and ChatGPT-User

  • Google Extended

  • Anthropic AI

  • CCBot

IMPORTANT NOTE: Turning off this option cannot retroactively remove content that has already been scanned. It’s also not yet possible to toggle this on/off for specific pages.

Hope this helps!
