THE ESSENTIAL MOBILE OPTIMIZATION CHECKLIST
More than half of all website traffic now comes from mobile devices—and that number continues to grow every year. If your website isn’t optimized for mobile, you could be losing out on leads, sales, and engagement.
I’ve put together a mobile optimization checklist to guide you through creating a website that looks and functions beautifully on every device.
Note: Squarespace templates are responsive by default, but there are still important steps you need to take to ensure your website looks great on smaller screens.

✅ Mobile Optimization Checklist for Squarespace Websites
1. Test Your Design in Mobile View
While designing, always toggle between desktop and mobile views to ensure your layout adjusts correctly.
2. Simplify Your Navigation
Mobile users don’t want to dig through endless menus. Use clear labels, keep your navigation short, and consider a hamburger menu for easy browsing.
3. Optimize Font Sizes and Line Spacing
Tiny text is frustrating to read on a phone. Make sure your headings and body text scale properly for smaller screens, with enough spacing so text doesn’t feel cramped.
4. Keep Buttons & Links Thumb-Friendly
Design with thumbs in mind. Buttons should be large enough to tap easily, and links shouldn’t be so close together that users click the wrong one by accident.
5. Use Responsive Image Blocks
Cropping can sometimes cut off important parts of your visuals. Double-check that focal points are set correctly so your images display as intended.
6. Minimize Clutter
What looks great on desktop can feel overwhelming on mobile. Use whitespace intentionally, break up long paragraphs, and simplify design elements for a clean, scannable experience.
7. Prioritize Speed
Large images and videos can slow down your mobile site. Non-background images should be scaled to 500kb or less.
8. Check Forms & Pop-Ups
Make sure contact forms, newsletter sign-ups, and any pop-ups are easy to use on mobile without covering the entire screen or being hard to close.
9. Test Across Devices
Don’t rely only on the preview. Check your site on multiple devices (iPhone, Android, iPad, tablet) and different browsers to catch any design hiccups.
10. Keep Important Info Above the Fold
Mobile visitors tend to skim. Place your most important content—like your headline, call-to-action button, or contact info—at the top so users see it immediately.
Final Thoughts
Mobile optimization isn’t just a nice-to-have—it’s essential if you want your website to convert visitors into clients or customers. By following this checklist, you’ll ensure your design is not only visually appealing but also functional, fast, and user-friendly on every screen size.
