This is my 8th year to compile these figures into an infographic (with the exception of 2020).
This is the very first year that Nashville has all hospitals under 30% but some hospitals increased their rate over last year. Vanderbilt sees the most high-risk deliveries so it’s not surprising that their rate is a little higher. I was disappointed to see Saint Thomas Midtown with the same rate even though they only see about half the high-risk deliveries as Vandy. Centennial has seen a significant drop over the past TWO years, which is incredible. Although, their episiotomy rate is higher than all of the other hospitals (6.4%).
While this data can be helpful in choosing where to deliver, it's also important to research your provider as well. Your care provider and birth team can have a significant impact on your delivery. Research indicates that having a doula can lower your risk of a Cesarean birth by as much as 39%. Taking a comprehensive childbirth education class can improve outcomes too.
